How many people use Locket in 2025? That’s our topic for the day.
In case you didn’t know, Locket is a widget from the Apple App Store that allows you to view live pictures from your family and friends from your iPhone’s home screen.
It acts as a digital picture frame that is constantly updating your feed of images from your close family and friends.
Locket can also limit each user to exchange pictures with only five of your besties.
We will be addressing how many people use Locket and other relevant data about the Apple widget.
How Many People Use Locket in 2025?
Locket currently has over 2 million users. Remember, it’s limited to iPhone users, so Android users aren’t included in this figure.
Locket was founded in 2013 in San Francisco, California.
Matt Moss, Locket’s creator, said he built it for his own personal use for his girlfriend so they could easily share pictures during their long-distance relationship.
What was a personal and romantic gesture is now a top-performing app in the Apple App Store.
No matter what you might think about the app, it’s obviously popular.
However, with online security always at the forefront of everything we do online, there may be more to the story.
Next, we will discuss safety, security, and privacy.
Is Locket Safe to Use?
Talking about how many people use Locket is more than just numbers. It’s also about the privacy and safety factors of the app.
Let’s discuss whether Locket is safe to use or not.
While the Locket app is a digital “locket” that can be customized your way, there are some concerns about privacy, which come with risks.
Here are a few things that stand out to us.
- It does request access to your contacts while claiming not to keep them.
- Anyone you have allowed to send you images can send you an inappropriate picture that is sent directly to your home screen.
- Locket’s Terms & Conditions tell you that the app owns all the pictures you send and receive and that they have the right to all of them.
So, those three factors are risks. There is no porn or predators, at least for now, but privacy concerns are warranted.
Generally speaking, it’s not a high-risk iPhone app, but there are a few risks to using it as mentioned above.
Locket does encourage its users to be careful when sharing pictures through the widget.
Locket also claims to work hard to keep images and data secure and private, but there are no guarantees, of course.
Now you have some information you really need to make an informed decision about using it.
Essentially, it’s safe to use, but it still needs a lot of work on its privacy issues.
What Other Concerns Are There About Locket’s Terms?
So, the widget’s terms of service has a section entitled “Rights You Grant Us”, which raises some red flags in our opinion.
Lockets claims that its users will “retain whatever ownership rights in that content you had to begin with“.
But, the app follows that up with “But you grant us (Locket) a license to use that content.” These are direct quotes from Locket’s terms of service.
There is more about the license to explain this within Locket’s terms of service.
Essentially, it tells you that Locket has all open access to all the images shared by its users and that they can choose to do whatever they want with said pictures.
If that’s not concerning enough, Locket also retains the license to access, review, “screen”, and delete your photo content for any reason and at any time.
Naturally, as you might expect, Locket and its affiliates can put advertising on the services, including personalized ads based on data they collect, obtain, and that you provide to them.
That’s a lot of data to have access to and that should concern you for privacy purposes.
All social apps and websites have these types of policies in place, which should be concerning to us all.
With that said, we think Locket has too much access and control over your photos and data, which is not acceptable in our view.
If that doesn’t concern you, then you have no worries.
It’s not that we think Locket plans to use your data for nefarious purposes, but we think it’s not such a good idea to let an app have that much control over your photos and such.
Conclusion
How many people use Locket in 2025? Locket has over 2 million users at this time.
That’s about all we have about Locket at this time. If you use it, just take care what kind of photos you share.
Remember, Locket has a license to do whatever it chooses with your photos.
We aren’t saying not to use it. We are merely stating that we should all take care about what apps and widgets we use on our phones.
